Ghost Recon 1 First Person Mod
Fifteen years ago Ubisoft released the first entry in the Ghost Recon franchise, the video game what plot was very close to the 2008 Russia-Georgia war. This title of Tom Clancy’s tactical multiverse saw many sequels, with its latest entry, Ghost Recon: Wildlands, coming to stores on March 2017. But one fan couldn’t let go of the original even after all these years.
Known as Apex on the internet, the programmer released today the final open beta version for a mod that’s been under development since the original game came out in 2001. Titled Ghost Recon: Heroes Unleashed, the mod is described as an unofficial expansion featuring several additions (more than 200 maps and 400 weapons), improvements to gameplay, and bug fixes.
First released in 2001 for Windows PC, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon is a tactical shooter often pointed by experts as one of the titles that defined the genre, alongside its sister franchise Rainbow Six. Unlike other Tom Clancy’s video games, Ghost Recon was not inspired by any of the author’s books, instead featuring an original story that puts players in the middle of a conflict between Eastern European nations. Despite reviews that ranged from mixed to positive, Ghost Recon was awarded Best Game of the Year by IGN and PC Gamer and Best Sound by PC Gamer. It received two expansion packs following its release and ports to consoles: Desert Siege and Island Thunder, both in 2002.
